Week 1 of Train On Em Tuesday
First off, I am not 100% sold on the name or title right now but that is what I am going with right now. So, what is Train On Em Tuesday about. As all of you know you can follow my training videos through Instagram account @thethrivingfatkid. But I thought it best to give you a behind the scenes or really a peak into the mindset that I am in when I am going through my training week.
As you can see I am 25 days into my training towards the completion on my Ironman someday. And I am sure I failed to mention my motivation for wanting to complete an Ironman. Since the beginning of my career in the military running has never been a joy of mine. I have worked on changing my mindset towards it, changing my training methods, and have recruited help towards my efforts. All to no avail, because I still hate running. I was listening to an audio book (as I often do to education myself) The 10X Rule by Grant Cardone and it redirect my mindset to not just be a better runner but to complete a task that would I deem insurmountable.
So, onto the meat and potatoes. How is training going? For the first 20 or so days, I did things my way and used my best judgement for what I thought to be a good training program. But all the while I knew I was out of my element. I am a strength coach by nature and true conditioning is foreign to me. So, I did what any good athlete would do. I reached out for help from resources I knew were part of the sport. People that I knew had spent time in the sport and understood better than I what it took to be decent at the sport. I am not looking to be great but I am looking to accomplish a goal. For me to do that I need a map/plan of where to start and how to get it done. I contacted the man that introduced me to Crossfit Adam Leggio. He was introduced to me as the “Crossfit guy” and it changed my life forever. What I didn’t know is that he used his crossfit training to aid him in his triathlon training. He introduced me to Crossfit in 2012 and now in 2017 he has aided me in my Triathlon journey as well. I also went to a site that I knew would put me on the right course Powerspeedendurance.com. It gives me the current training that I am completing now.
There is no greater feeling than knowing that the work you are doing is putting you closer to completing you goal. The confidence of knowing “this is working and I love it”. That is what I have now. In the past, few days I have gained many tools to aid me on my journey. Though I may not have all the tools to utilize the advice given i.e. pool, bike, resistance mask, or running track. Nevertheless, what I can do I do to the best of my ability and I see progress from it. Right now, things are fun and I am enjoying it. My run times are nowhere near decent, my swim in some eyes could be considered drowning, and I couldn’t tell you what I am capable of on a bike. But being on the journey and sharing it with whoever is willing to listen is bringing me so much joy.
Thanks for your time. If you liked it please share it with someone in your life. Like the Facebook page and follow me on Instagram. Because my hope in doing this is that by you watching my journey you gain something to use in yours.
