Day 32 of Triathlon Training Log 20170606

Week 2 of Tri Training Log

As you can see we have been at this for 32 days now and this past week has been a bust to say the least. Since we last caught up I have had two legit training days and the rest has been international travel and recuperation from said travel. I made every effort to relax and stretch out my body during my 18-hour travel day but with the added stress of keeping up with a family it made things very difficult to say the least. Oh, and let me not forget to tell you that I had the worst seat next to one of the largest woman I have ever seen get on the plane without a seat extender. She sat in the middle and had no disregard for who was on either side of her. Along with that she……. This blog is not about her it’s about the training so let’s get back to that.

I have solidified in my mind that Crossfit coaches that also practice or have a back ground in yoga make the best warm ups/ cool downs. The reason being is that they have a different eye for what is best for the muscle to be stretched for a given movement. Not only that but they also have a better sense of how the stretch the body in a sequence that will not only focus on the main muscle group but also the supporting muscle groups as well. Much like in my opinion a massage therapist or chiropractor would treat the symptoms by treating the areas surrounding the area.  With that in mind I may pick up doing yoga every now and again to learn how best to stretch the body.

Final thought of the week is that through some reading I came across a very interesting quote that I will never forget. “Discipline Equals Freedom” by Jocko Willink. He wrote an amazing book on leadership call Extreme Ownership and has an amazing podcast Leadership and Discipline. Now he has a kid’s book called Way of the Warrior Kid. In the book, he talks about how thru showing discipline towards a goal you gain freedom. That by being discipline, by doing the thing that you know you should do even when you don’t want to you gain freedom. For instance, if you are discipline in your physical training and eating regiment then you have the freedom to have a night of partying and eating out and not have to worry about getting fat. Not have to worry about getting sick and missing work or life events. Not have to worry about fitting into clothes that you could/ couldn’t months ago. That is just one area of a person’s life. The ability to apply discipline when the motivation is gone is what keeps the ball rolling towards your goal. I will hold onto this quote for the rest of my days and I hope you will too.

Thanks for your time. If you liked it please share it with someone in your life. Like the Facebook page and follow me on Instagram. Because my hope in doing this is that by you watching my journey you gain something to use in yours.
